Trouble in Kenya
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

There has been much trouble in Kenya in the past five months. After the presidential elections, there was a violence between the two political groups and the violence became ethnically charged. The two sides have reached a deal where President Mwai Kibaki will stay as current president and Raila Odinga will become the prime minister.
Members of the tribe of the President began attacking other minority tribes and there was much violence. More than one thousand people were killed during the turmoil and 350,000 Kenyans were displaced. Even after the political deal has been reached, many people are still afraid to go back to their homes because of the violence that has happened.
About half of the displaced Kenyans live in displaced persons camps set up by the Red Cross. They are being encouraged-almost forced it seems-to leave these camps even though they dont feel safe going back to their homes or dont have a place to go home to.
